Our project provides learning materials for Cambodian Genocide focusing on 8th grade students. This includes a second edition of Channy Chhi Laux’s award-winning memoir, “Short Hair Detention”, which recounts the physical and emotional tortures that she endured when she was the same age as the students. In addition to the reading material, we will provide support to the teachers with a lesson plan including workbooks and questions that can be used for discussion.  Moreover, we will support the teacher with survivors as speakers.  The grant will be used to develop the 2nd edition of Short Hair Detention, and the workbooks as well as the discussion questions.

This project is the initial step of our broader group vision: to provide resources and support to educators at all school levels. To be the voice of those who did not survive.
